I don't know about you but if you ask me, 2024 is The Year of Moo Deng! Since birth, this little lady has taken the world by storm; charming animal lovers near and far with her adorable face, unbridled tantrums, and impossibly slippery nature! Moo Deng contains multitudes and is here to remind you that you can be beyond precious AND completely unhinged! It's all about balancing one extreme with another. Whether this girl is practicing munching on veg beside her momma, having zoomies around her pen, evading her handlers with her inexplicably moist body, or biting the shin of her closest caretaker, Moo Deng has stolen our hearts for as long as they continue beating.
Like many little ones, Moo Deng enjoys dressing up like a fairy princess, and it only felt right to give her some stylized, cutesy flames blasting out of that teeny mouth of hers, followed by a little twinkly trail behind her tutu'ed bum. The colors from her pastel flames are carried over to the sides of this piece, making viewing pretty from all angles.
It only felt right that Moo Deng's portrait be painted on top of a heart-shaped panel. Her portrait is even tinier than the princess herself, with her mouth being the perfect size to bite your thumb (ask me what I kept doing throughout the making of this piece... haha). The super-fine details of her portrait were a satisfying challenge, and so fun to see everything come together at this scale.
While 2024 may be the year of Moo Deng, like a true icon we know this girl will always remain timeless because adorable rage never goes out of style.
